You can create a swarm from the Swarms page in your workspace. A swarm needs a clear goal, a leader, and at least two members. Once saved, the swarm is ready to receive messages and delegate work.
1

Open the create dialog

Go to Swarms in the sidebar, then click New Swarm.
2

Name the swarm

Enter a name that reflects the mission, such as “Weekly Report Team” or “Customer Support Escalation.”
3

Write the goal prompt

Describe what the swarm should accomplish. The prompt should be at least 50 characters so the leader has enough context to plan and delegate. You can click Improve Prompt after adding agents to enrich the description with their capabilities.
4

Pick a leader

Choose who leads the swarm:
  • Maya — she orchestrates the swarm and chats with you directly.
  • One of your agents — the agent becomes the orchestrator and speaks for the swarm.
The leader must be one of the selected members. You cannot assign an external agent as leader.
5

Add members

Select at least two agents total. You can add:
  • Your agents from the Internal tab. Use the search box to filter by name.
  • External agents from the External tab. Paste the agent’s base URL and verify it. Kolmena reads the agent card from /.well-known/agent-card.json under that URL.
If you deselect the current leader, the crown moves to the first remaining selected agent automatically.
6

Create the swarm

Click Create Swarm. Kolmena builds the team and takes you to the swarm chat.

Tips for a strong swarm

  • Match skills to the goal. A research swarm benefits from an analyst and a writer. A support swarm benefits from a triage agent and an escalation agent.
  • Keep the prompt focused. One clear mission is easier to delegate than a broad list of unrelated tasks.
  • Start with your own agents. External agents are useful for extending reach, but your own agents share your knowledge base and credentials.
A swarm needs at least two members and a leader. External agents count toward the member minimum, but only your own agents can lead.
