# Chat with Maya: Start Conversations and Manage History

> Learn how to start chats with Maya, manage your chat history with pinning and archiving, attach files, and use voice mode for hands-free conversations.

You can talk to Maya at any time from the Kolmena sidebar. Every conversation is saved to your chat history so you can resume, organize, or clean up past threads without losing context.

## Start a New Chat

    Click the sidebar toggle or press the keyboard shortcut to open the left panel.

  <Step title="Click Talk to Maya">
    Select **Talk to Maya** to jump into your main chat, or click **New Chat** to start a fresh thread.

  <Step title="Send your message">
    Type in the composer and press Enter, or use the voice button to speak instead of typing.

## Manage Chat History

Your chat history lives in the sidebar under **Chats**. You can organize it to keep important conversations within reach.

| Action | How to do it |
| - | - |
| **Search** | Use the search box at the top of the chat history panel to find conversations by name or content. |
| **Pin** | Hover over a chat row and click the pin icon to keep it in the **Pinned** section at the top. Click again to unpin. |
| **Rename** | Hover over a chat, click the pencil icon, type a new name, and press Enter. |
| **Archive** | Hover over a chat and click the archive icon to remove it from the sidebar. The conversation and its transcript are preserved; you are only hiding the row. |

You can also group chats by date or by agent and swarm, and sort them by recent activity, creation date, name, or a manual order you define.

## Attach Files

You can attach files to any message so Maya or your agents can read, analyze, or transform them.

    Click the attachment button in the message composer, or drag and drop a file directly into the chat.

  <Step title="Select the file">
    Choose documents, images, spreadsheets, or other supported files. You can also tag knowledge files from your library.

  <Step title="Send">
    Add an optional message and send. The agent will reference the attachment in its reply.
  </Step>

<Tip>
  You can open an attachment in a new tab, download it, or view dashboards directly from the chat thread.

## Use Voice Mode

Voice mode lets you talk to Maya hands-free. The spoken turns appear in the chat thread as ordinary messages, so the conversation stays readable and searchable.

    In the composer, tap the microphone or voice icon to start a voice session.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Speak naturally">
    Talk to Maya as you would in a normal conversation. Your speech is transcribed and sent as a message.

  <Step title="End the call">
    Tap the hang-up button or close the chat to end the voice session.
  </Step>

  Voice mode requires a supported browser and microphone access. If the voice button is unavailable, check your browser permissions.
